HEY: I’m Stacy Bowie, artist, graphic designer, performer and lover of improv. My media of choice is-acrylic and my inspiration is music. My passion for art led me to create hand-painted stationery which got me accepted into the Gold Coast Art Fair and recognized by the National Greeting Card Association. I was soon discovered by SWAROVSKI who invited me to create wedding invitations for their Crystal Wedding Event.
GOING BIG: From cards to canvas. I wanted to examine with the connection between the audio and the visual and soon launched my interdisciplinary project in a solo exhibit Music set 2 Art (now Music 2 Art) in Chicago at Little Black Pearl. Crazy by Seal (shown) was the first in what has emerged as an ecclectic collection of music-to-art “translations” from songs by Sam Smith to The Weeknd with more to come.
ON STAGE: Elysabeth Alfano, host of The Dinner Party, invited me to open her show with a live painting performance accompanied by violinist, Edith Yokley. At my first solo painting performance Music 2 Art LIVE at the Madden Theater in Naperville, IL (shown) I wanted the audience to feel as if they were getting a glimpse into my world when I create. Since there ARE moments of dancing during my process they were privy to my awesome dance moves. However, in the studio I often sing while I work but I would NEVER subject people to that!
TODAY: My Music 2 Art project continues with consideration given to the music video art form. I’ll be talking about my paintings, other art, music and music videos on my new channel RED b which will launch on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. VERY excited about that so I hope you’ll subscribe, comment and share! In addition to my show I co-host a channel called KGirls with my daughter Izabel where we discuss Kpop (Korean popular music).
